Kia ora Whanau

At the recently held NYWNA National Council Hui, in Nelson a work station activity was run.

3 questions were asked, "What is Youth Work" one of the 3

Some of the fabulous feedback from the groups were;

A coach, teacher and mentor
Young person centered
Maximising Young Peoples full potential
Enabling individuals and groups in researching their own potential
Exposing Young people to wider opportunities
Building relationships
This is difficult and complex to define
Providing a service to build a relationship (we love Lloyd)
Fun
Diversity
Empowerment
Positive transition

What do others think................................

This may be a helpful place to start from:
www.youthlink.co.uk/docs/Statement%20on%20the%20Na ture%20and%20Purpose%20of%20Youth%20Work.pdf

I think I would add something about youth work being linked to the tradition in every healthy culture that means older people help younger people develop the skills, knowledge, values and beliefs that the culture considers essential to healthy, happy existence that makes a meaningful contribution to the world.

I would add something about youth work being involved in the process of helping young people understand who they are - both who they choose to be and who they are by virtue of the time, place and people groups they were into.

Kia Ora,

I think that it is vital for a young person to know who they are in order too reach their full potential.
