Having a quick think about the draft list of competencies that the Youth Work Strategy Group Hui came up with:
• understands the context of young people
• understands the context of youth work
• bicultural partnerships
• builds connectedness
• builds quality relationships
• young people are safe
• to work from a strengths-based perspective
• actively engages, involves and empowers young people
• youth workers are reflective practitioners

And reading what the proposed explanation of the 'bicultural partnerships' competency: "Treaty of Waitangi, working cross culturally, bicultural practice, working in a Maori context"

I'm not sure this is sufficient and I would like to see something related to the issues of power and privilege - critical analysis and self-awareness in terms of age, class, gender, cultural background, etc.
