Graduates of the Diploma in Youth and Community Studies lead teams and manage projects and services with young people in the context of schools, social service agencies, churches, youth camps and youth centres in their community. The services they offer may include a specialised focus such as advocacy, outdoor education, sports, cultural or the arts.

They operate ethically and safely from a model of holistic youth development (Youth Development Strategy Aotearoa), which seeks to engage with the needs of young people and contribute to their physical, emotional, spiritual and social development.

Ministry of Youth Development Funded Programmes
The Ministry of Youth Development’s Services for Young People Fund supports Te Waiariki Purea Trust to deliver one New Zealand Conservation Corps programme. This programme has a strong outdoor component to it.  Young people experience a journey in waka-ama through the lakes of Rotorua, learning the local Maori history of the area.  General life skills are also an important part of the programme.
