The National Diploma in Youth Work (Level 6)

The National Diploma in Youth Work aims to develop the knowledge, skills and attitude of students to contribute to the development and delivery of services to young people and communities in New Zealand. Successful learners will operate safely and ethically in their community from strengths based youth development approaches, and with skills specific to their context. Their level of responsibility will usually extend to co-ordination of a community based project, and will include aspects of management for a community organisation and/or a team of volunteer workers.

Entry requirements

The TOHU project is targeted at experienced, practicing youth workers who are developing into senior levels of responsibility within their organisation.

All applicants:

- Should be at least 20 years old (unless a special exemption is granted).

- Should have a minimum of two years experience in working with young people in either a voluntary or a paid capacity.

- They should supply a reference to this effect from their employer, and provide details of one other reference person.

- They should be in a position of responsibility for a youth work project (the size of the project does not matter).

- They should have the support of their employing organisation to complete the TOHU project (this will include time to complete workshops and take part in cluster groups).

- Should be a member of their local youth worker network.
